Thank you to those who have contacted me in relation to academies and school choice.

Since originally introduced by a former Labour Government, I think that the additional choice of an academy route in education has proved its effectiveness. But the style of the school is only one element in success, the most important remaining the quality of leadership, particularly that of the Head.

I am aware of concerns about the element in the Government's White Paper concerning the further development of academies. While I think there should be more attention paid to the rest of the White Paper, I think it right at this stage to pass on constituents' concerns to the Secretary of State herself, as I am sure many will be interested in her reasoning.

I will update this page with her response as soon as I receive it.
